Empowering Youth through Vocational Education

In Kauma Community in Lilongwe, transformation is taking place. Juliet Enock, a beneficiary of the Tingathe Training Program, is sharing her story of how this initiative has brought significant positive change to her life and family.

Juliet Enock, like many in her community, had a burning passion for tailoring and fashion design. However, her dreams remained locked in the realm of wishes, as financial constraints held her back. But everything changed in 2022 when Juliet enrolled in the Tingathe Training Program (TTP).

Through this program, Juliet acquired the skills and knowledge necessary to turn her passion into a thriving business. After successfully graduating from the program, she took a bold step by opening her workshop at home. Here, she crafts a diverse range of stylish clothing for men, women, and children.

What is most remarkable about Juliet’s journey is how she transitioned from being dependent on her husband for family support to becoming a contributor herself. Juliet shares her transformation proudly, saying, “Through the money I get from my workshop, I manage to support my husband in feeding our family, buy clothes for our kids, and support my relatives. This is something I have been dreaming about: I wanted to contribute to my family and not only receive from my husband because this attitude is what makes many families not develop.”

Juliet’s business has improved her family’s financial well-being. Her new status has allowed her to share her inspiring story with her fellow community members, particularly women, encouraging them not to underestimate their potential for change. She emphasizes that passion and action are the keys to empowerment. Juliet’s message is clear: anyone, regardless of their circumstances, can make a difference in their family’s life and the community as a whole. “Joining developmental programs like the Tingathe Training Program is a gateway to self-improvement and community upliftment.” She said.

Juliet is just one of the many young people who have graduated from the Tingathe program and have gone on to achieve great things. Tingathe’s mission of imparting skills to youth, women, and children in peri-urban communities is bearing fruit as these graduates become changemakers in their communities.

Juliet’s story is a powerful reminder of the positive impact that educational and skill-building programs can have on people’s lives and entire communities. Tingathe wishes her well as she continues to excel in her business, inspire others, and support her family.
