Today, we take a trip down memory lane to January 2023, when Tingathe, in collaboration with Link Community Development Malawi, conducted orientations for the 2023 cohort of the Tingathe Training Program (TTP), resulting in the graduation of 50 young individuals.
At Tingathe, we strongly believe in the power of partnerships, as they offer opportunities for shared resources, expertise, and networks. Collaborations enhance our capacity to achieve goals and broaden impact through combined efforts and diverse skill sets.
In 2023, Tingathe partnered with Link Community Development Malawi to provide vocational training for young people in peri-urban communities. The training covered Carpentry and Joinery, Tailoring and Fashion Design, Financial Literacy, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, as well as Leadership and Entrepreneurship. With support from organizations such as the Segal Family Foundation, the Imago Dei Foundation, Old Mutual Malawi, and others, we successfully trained these young individuals. We believe that they will create jobs, uplift their communities, and contribute to the development of the country.
Since 2017, Tingathe has graduated 697 young people from the vocational training program, many of whom are actively involved in diverse economic activities. Some have established farms, workshops, and businesses, while others are employed in reputable institutions like the Ufulu Gardens Hotel, the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM), and Crossroads Hotel, among others.
In 2024, Tingathe is excited to continue the program, and we extend an invitation to companies, organizations, and individuals interested in sponsoring students or bringing their students to join us. Our aim is to improve the lives of young people in peri-urban communities by equipping them with marketable skills to alleviate acute poverty and unemployment.
The Tingathe vocational training program, offered under the Technical, Entrepreneurial, Vocational, Education and Training (TEVET) Informal Vocational Skills, is designed to build capacity among the youth, empowering them to become changemakers in their communities.
