“I wanted to grow and help others.” – Meet Memory Mtonda, Tingathe Finance and Administration Intern

“My most memorable moment was when I was allowed by the Tingathe team to chair a meeting where we discussed programs implementation.”

These are the words of Memory Ebenezer Mtonda, a Finance and Administration Intern at Tingathe.

She is a final-year accounting student at Malawi Assemblies of God University. Memory joined Tingathe because of her passion for community development and her desire to apply the knowledge and skills she learned in class to real-life situations.

“I wanted to be ready for future jobs, so I thought this internship would help me gain experience,” Memory says. “But I also wanted to be part of something that helps the community.”

At Tingathe, Memory works as part of the finance team. Her responsibilities include recording expenses, organizing receipts, and helping prepare financial reports. She also supports the administration team with tasks like filing documents and managing office supplies.

“Working in both finance and administration has helped me understand how an organization operates every day,” she explains. “It’s not just about numbers. It’s about being organized, keeping good records, and making sure everything runs smoothly.”

One of her proudest moments came when the team gave her the chance to lead a meeting.

“When I was asked to chair a meeting on programs implementation, I felt nervous at first,” she says. “But the team believed in me, and that made me feel confident. I realized that I can lead and contribute ideas.”

That meeting taught her an important lesson about communication.

“This experience showed me that we learn through practice,” Memory says. “And I learned one important thing that helps teams succeed—communication. When people talk and listen to each other, they understand problems better and can work together to bring change in all parts of life.”

As her internship comes to an end on June 30, 2025, Memory is looking back at her time with gratitude.

“My team, led by my supervisor Martial Betke, has taught me a lot,” she shares. “I have learned the importance of working with different people, managing time well, and being organized. These skills are very important for my future career.”

She is now more prepared to step into the professional world.

“I will use these skills in my future career as an accountant,” she adds. “I want to work well with teams and make sure everything is done on time. And most importantly, I will always focus on helping the community, no matter where I work.”

For Memory, Tingathe has been a place of growth, support, and transformation.

“If I am asked to describe Tingathe, I would use three words: Empowering, Supportive, and Life-Changing,” she says.

Her time at Tingathe has helped her grow into a confident young woman who is ready to take on the world. She came as a student looking for experience, but she leaves as a future leader who understands the value of teamwork, communication, and service to others.

The Tingathe team is proud of the progress Memory has made and the person she has become. Her commitment, positive attitude, and willingness to learn have made her a valuable part of the organization.

“Memory has been a joy to work with,” one of her colleagues shared. “She is disciplined, focused, and always ready to help. We are excited to see where her journey takes her next.”

As she completes her internship, the entire Tingathe family wishes her all the best in her future.

Her story reminds us that when young people are given the chance to grow through hands-on experience, they become strong, capable, and ready to bring change to the world.

And as Memory Mtonda steps into her next chapter, she does so with confidence, purpose, and a heart ready to serve.
