Tingathe Commemorates World AIDS Day

Today, December 2, 2024, Tingathe conducted a session with youth from Mtandire and surrounding areas in commemoration of World AIDS Day, celebrated annually on December 1. The event took place at the Tingathe One-Stop Centre in Area 56, Mtandire, Lilongwe, and was organized in partnership with the Sexual Reproductive Health Africa Trust (SAT).

The program began with the Tingathe team sharing the importance of World AIDS Day and the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, stressing their interconnectedness. During the session, the SAT team delivered a presentation on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, sparking an engaging and educational discussion on HIV transmission methods and effective preventive measures. It was exciting to see participants interact with facilitators on topics that are often difficult to address within our communities.

The highlight of the event was a dialogue on Gender, Sex, and Power Dynamics. Attendees were divided into groups to discuss different aspects of Gender-Based Violence. Each group presented their discussions which demonstrated a clear understanding of the issues and proposed actionable solutions to create a safer and more informed community.

This year, World AIDS Day is commemorated under the theme, “Take the Rights Path.”

The day ended on a high note for our team, and we believe that through this event, we have empowered youth with the knowledge needed to combat HIV/AIDS and Gender-Based Violence. This conversation does not end here; we are taking it to the next level by shifting from talking to action. Let us all take the rights path toward a healthier and more informed community.
