Today, the Tingathe offices came alive with energy, laughter and creativity as women gathered to celebrate International Women’s Day. Instead of the traditional speeches and formalities, the day unfolded as a lively experience, a celebration centred on the power of women teaching women.
The purpose of the event was to create a space where women could share their unique skills, learn from one another and strengthen their sense of community. What followed was an inspiring display of unity and practical empowerment. Attendees were treated to an inspiring address by the guest speaker, Steliah Chikadza, who set the tone for the day by sharing her personal journey and emphasising the incredible strength found in women supporting one another. Her message reminded everyone present of their own potential.
It was a scene of joyful collaboration as women became both teachers and learners. They experienced hands guided newcomers in creating a variety of practical items, including making handmade bar soap, washing powder, dishwash, ice cream, among others.
The impact of the day, however, went far beyond the items that were made. The real achievement was the powerful exchange of knowledge. Women who had never met before left as friends and collaborators and those who met long ago re-united. They gained new, marketable skills and a renewed sense of confidence and self-worth.
By the end of the program, it was clear that the event had achieved its goal. The women left Tingathe equipped with new skills, a stronger support network and the empowering knowledge that they are both capable and valued.
The celebration served as a reminder that when women share what they know, they don’t just learn a new craft, they build a foundation for a stronger, more self-sufficient future for themselves, their families, and their entire community.
This year, International Women’s Day was celebrated under the theme ‘Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.’
