Passion for Social Work Leads Wykenham Collegiate Student to Tingathe

My name is Victoria Majamanda, and I am a 14-year-old student at Wykenham Collegiate in South Africa. Recently, I had the opportunity to intern at Tingathe, where I gained valuable insight into the organization’s work and what it means to operate within the civil society space

From what I understand, Tingathe is a non-governmental organization dedicated to engaging with peri-urban communities in Malawi to build partnerships that contribute to a better future for society. The organization was established in 2016 by co-founders Sarah and Aubrey Lindeire. Tingathe’s main focus is on empowering youth, community leaders, and women involved in small businesses. They also work with school-going children, encouraging them to acquire essential skills that enable them to thrive in their communities.

The organization achieves this by providing training programmes. Over the past few days, I have come to realize that Tingathe plays an important role in the community by inspiring people to pursue a better future and providing opportunities for a stable life. Through a variety of programmes, they take concrete actions to address the challenges that Malawi faces, particularly in empowering the youth and helping individuals succeed, which brings hope for a brighter future for the country.

Their vision is to create a society where the most vulnerable and marginalized people have the tools to lift themselves out of poverty, become stronger, make investments, and succeed. Their mission is to provide a locally relevant and market-driven suite of urban enterprise options, connecting participants to basic services, developing savings and loan groups, and building, deeper community ties in peri-urban areas.
