Today, Tingathe participated in a consultation meeting organized by the National Youth Council of Malawi to discuss ideas for the 2024-2029 Youth Strategic Plan. The meeting brought together representatives from youth-led organizations and the Lilongwe City Council to address critical issues affecting the youth and explore potential solutions.
Key issues raised included unemployment, poverty, and a lack of knowledge of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). These are critical challenges that Tingathe is addressing through our programs. The Tingathe Training Programme provides vocational skills to young people, empowering them to become entrepreneurs and reduce poverty. However, we recognize the need for other partners to join us in this cause to maximize impact.
Additionally, we offer SRHR education through all our programs, including the Children’s Life Skills Programme and Tingathe Geni, ensuring that beneficiaries can lead healthy lives in their communities.
The consultation meeting allowed Tingathe to share our experiences and insights. We discussed how our initiatives are already making a difference and proposed ways to incorporate similar strategies into the national strategic plan.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the unveiling of NAYCOM’s upcoming initiatives, including an Annual General Assembly slated for October 2024, the development of the Achinyamata Centre in Area 50, Lilongwe, and the establishment of a One Hundred Million Kwacha fund to support young entrepreneurs.
Tingathe is pleased to have contributed to this important dialogue as an organization dedicated to youth empowerment. We are hopeful that our input will be reflected in the 2024-2029 Youth Strategic Plan, and will benefit the country’s youth.
