Today, we visited our women beneficiaries from Faith Women Group in Msiliza Area, Lilongwe, to assess their progress as participants of our Tingathe Geni Program. It was inspiring to see that the women have achieved an average income increase after completing our training. Many have launched their businesses, including grocery shops, selling second-hand clothes at Tsoka Market in Lilongwe, selling duvets, and other ventures.
The chairperson of Faith Women Group Egritta Phri shared that many of these women previously relied solely on their husbands for financial support, leaving their families struggling economically. However, after participating in our program, things have changed. Some women are now paying school fees for their children, supporting relatives, and even employing others to help run their businesses. Through their group, they contribute money weekly, creating a revolving loan system that provides members with capital to boost their businesses.
We were excited to hear that the Faith Women Group plans to start a timber and second-hand clothing business, which they believe will become a central income hub to support their families and individual ventures. It brings us immense joy to witness these women transforming from passive members of the community into active contributors to the economic development of their families and neighborhoods.
