Empowering Communities Through Eco-Friendly Charcoal Briquettes

After completing leadership and entrepreneurship training and learning the theoretical aspects of producing eco-friendly charcoal briquettes, our participants have now begun their practical sessions!

In these sessions, participants are learning how to produce eco-friendly charcoal briquettes using organic waste materials such as rice husks and groundnut shells. The participants come from Mtandire, Mtsiliza, and surrounding communities in Lilongwe.

Our goal is to reduce reliance on wood charcoal, combat deforestation, and promote environmental sustainability. Through this project, participants gain access to an affordable, sustainable energy source while also creating income-generating opportunities. After the training, they will have free access to the briquette-making machine, allowing them to produce and sell their charcoal, with all earnings going directly to them.

We believe this initiative will economically empower families while protecting our environment.

This project is made possible through funding from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), allocated by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) under the United Nations Development Programme – UNDP.
